People, the reality of this depression is simple: Corporations HATE labor and people...if they could, they would replace all humans that receive a wage with what I call "Honda-Bots"....robots that cost nothing to make and sell and that last forever with little or no maintenance. Why would they lay all of us off? Because the purpose of all corporations is the following: Maximize Income, Minimize cost (or elminiate costs). Corporations HAVE BEEN and ALWAYS WILL BE apathetic...souless profiteers. I recommend a revolt...I highly recommend a revolutionary revolt....close all businesses - ALL OF THEM! GOVERMENT CONTROL OF ALL WITH THE ELMINATION OF THE REPUBLIC and the creation of a DIRECT DEMOCRACY! NO MORE LOBBYING...HAIL CARL MARX! And you republicans who are business lovers and anti-labor haters, ROT IN HELL!

Understand your frustration. The reality is that other economic models like communism and socialism have failed across the world. Even China practises autocratic capitalism where political power resides with the state but the economic model is capitalism. So one cannot wish way capitalism atleast in our lifetime. The solution lies in picking skills that differentiate and cannot be outsourced and offshored easily. The other skill that we need is to adapt quickly to changes in the economic environment and adapt new skills even as the old ones no longer provide differentiation. So stand up and bravely face the world. You can either rave and rant about the inequity or face the reality and come on top through hard work. The choice is yours. On one point I agree. HR departments have no mind (or heart) of their own...they do what their masters want. So rely on yourself instead of blaming others.
Your frustration is understandable. But is government controlled business model the right answer? Socialism perhaps but not communism. Bureaucracy in India at least is not up to the mark and frankly I'd place my belief on capitalism than bureaucracy. That is where Neil's suggestion above comes into picture and makes sense. Make yourself so good and different that outsourcing your job is not easily possible. And look at the other way round, when the job market was good, don't we employees jump at the best opportunity that comes our way?
