Career Management >> Learning from failures
Sarah, a young journalist in the leading women's magazine of Mumbai, had been in and out of jobs. At the age of 25, she has already jumped 4 jobs, hardly into a year in each organization. Every time, she left the company on a bad note. Reason? She was under the grip of office politics. She always trusted the wrong people and discussed work related issues and at times, even participated in the gossips about senior management. And then, there came a time when things went out of hand and she was everyone’s scapegoat. She could not fight back, as that was against her nature, but gave up and quit her job.
Sarah’s case is a typical case where people don’t learn from their past mistakes and keep on heading for some kind of failure or the other. We can either take charge of our career or allow others to dictate so. One can reach out for career counseling to help handle such matters.
Why does this happen? Sarah, as well as millions of people like her, has this lack of reasoning in their minds. They are basically believers in fate and destiny. They feel, they are the victims and everyone around them are always treating them badly or taking advantage of their goodness. Whereas, these people (Sarah and similar characters) are not introspective enough to realize where they are going wrong and what are the loopholes of such untoward incidents. They also don’t realize the fact that they are being escapists and not trying to deal with the situation and every time running out of it, so as, not to face the ruckus.
These people are not always foolish, no one in today’s world is foolish any way. They are people who are not introspective or at times, too weak and reluctant to correct oneself. They take things so personally that, they cannot even judge the situation from a different perspective. They shy away from the whole unpleasant incident which they have walked into, and feel so hurt and betrayed by their peers and friends that they are ready to run.
Once they understand and analyze their behaviors, then they will take the necessary steps in the future to ensure that they do not commit the same mistakes and thus walk into success. A head on one’s shoulder and a unbiased opinion of people and situation can be the only way we can learn from our failures or mistakes and then walk towards a better future.
But Life is not always fair for any of us. We cannot afford to always learn from a failure, we just can be a bit stronger, so that, we don’t break down under pressure. Learning from failures can act as a mantra for a successful future if we are ready to learn.
